Ueno Park is a public park right next to Ueno Station (no surprises there) in Central Tokyo that really reminds me of San Diego's Balboa Park. It is large enough for several museums, shrines, a huge pond and Japan's oldest zoo, the Ueno Zoo.
Heading to Benten-do
Bentendo is an octagonal temple hall on an island in Shinobazu Pond at the southern end of the park. The temple is dedicated to Benten, the goddess of good fortune, wealth, music and knowledge. Bentendo's grounds are especially lively during the hanami season when they are crowded with festival food stalls.

I was there with my family last summer. My folks were so tired (the heat!) that my dad took a siesta and slept in the park while my sister and I wandered around and shared a cold coffee by a fountain. Imagine that it must be much more pleasant to walk around in the park in Autumn : )
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by! Japan can be quite hot in summer, or so I heard! Hope you have a chance to visit it again in other seasons - it's a lovely country!
