Osaka is Japan's third largest and second most important city. The Aquarium Kaiyukan (海遊館) is second only to Universal Studios (meanwhile, Tokyo has Disneyland), which is the top attraction in Osaka. Unlike River Safari and S.E.A Aquarium, which focuses on rivers around the world and South East Asia waters respectively, Kaiyukan Aquarium features animals from the Pacific Rim.
The central tank, representing the Pacifc Ocean, is nine meters deep and home to a whale shark, the aquarium's main attraction. Visitors start their tour of the aquarium on the 8th floor and slowly spiral down floor by floor around the central tank. Some of the tanks stretch over several floors, making it possible to observe the animals from different depths and perspectives. source
Descending down the central tank is quite an adventure
Catch a glimpse of the whale shark and manta rays
I enjoyed the aquarium, I love to admire these beautiful and graceful creatures up close (the next best thing to diving). It reminds me why we need to preserve flora and fauna, simply because (Read this from the NYT). Whether they belong in captivity or in nature, I remain divided.
The Aquarium has more to offer, coming right up!
