Of Japan's 17 UNESCO sites, there are 7 in Nara alone (excluding the deers). I started out being quite ambitious. Read: Visit ALL the Sites! Then I got a little OD-ed. Don't get me wrong, they are each special and significant in their own way. Even UNESCO thinks so. But... bear in mind that each temple requires an admission fee of its own and I actually came from Kyoto (more temples). And the traveling also takes a toil. So my tip: Strategize. Find a few that you must visit, either from far or up close, and take time to admire the deers. Here's the low-down on all 7 sites:

Here are the 3 sites I visited (I'm sure you can do better than me):
1. Todaiji Temple
You had to walk past this impressive gate to get to the inner temple. Here's how humbling the gates can be:
Then another gate
And finally the temple
2. Kofukuji Temple area
This is actually quite near the train station. Wandering the grounds is free but entering some areas requires a fee.
3. Gangô-ji

Do stay tuned for some hidden gems I discovered in Nara coming up very soon.
Cost: Varies
Access: Walk from Nara Station
