Hengchun, Taiwan - Kenting

So from Kaoshiung, the next must-go place has to be Kenting, about 5-6h ride. Go near the train station and there are a bunch of touts who offer to send you down South. I agreed (the man looked honest enough!), it was cheaper, a tad cosier (with 3-4 other strangers) and he offered to drop me off at Nanwan Beach (where the surf hostel was), still it meant it was a roundabout trip (including dropping off other passengers at their location and delivering packages)...

Kenting is famed for its beaches. You can definitely still surf in December, but it's generally a ghost town. I would prefer somewhere in-between though. It's kinda big so it's best that you rent a bike to get around (nowadays I am starting to feel that a motorbike licence is more useful than a driving one). I stayed on Nanwan Beach for 1 night (8 bed dorm to myself, drinks out night with owner, cockroach as roommate so much so I couldn't sleep) which was an experience I probably hope to relive (and learn that surfing!) soon! The sand is SO soft, Kenting's beach is, as led to believe, fabulous. Then another (or two?) night in a Hengchun hostel, right smack on the night market (more food!).

Bored with nothing to do. Cycle to Hengchun! It was quite a harrowing experience because bikes and cars were so fast. But I did relish the adrenaline rush!

Must repeat in case people don't believe. Road names in Taiwan are quite special! The most important road anywhere (city or town) is always Zhongzheng or Zhongsan Road (named so after KMT founders)

Kenting is awesome but so unexplored! Next planned destination (but not booked) was Green Island, but after hearing things (probably nonsense) like 'You might not get a boat back due to bad weather.. trapped on island..' I proceeded on to... Taipei. Did I regret? Not really, there's still tons of stuff to do in and around Taipei... Like a place I learnt about from a fellow traveller in Puli...next up!
