Taichung, Taiwan (In a Day)

If you had 1 day and 1 night in Taichung, how would you spend it? Our take - Have some bubble tea in a Fine Arts museum, visit the Eslite bookstore, before heading to Fengjia Night Market.

Actually we didn't plan much for Taichung except for Fengjia Night Market (because it's all about the food, I didn't bring my camera down), so we made sure to stay in the area. Afterall, it is just a stopover between Cingjing and Alishan. But it turned out to be a rather culturally-rich stopover.

We just flipped the guide books at the hostel and noted some places that were more accessible. We headed to the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts to learn to be more cultured but it's such a pity that it's closed on a Monday. (EH we must have missed this when reading the guidebooks). However, it's fine because we found a lovely place to chill.

Chun Shui Tang 春水堂 , famous for its tapioca balls bubble tea. You can make your own drink too, but I think you need to make prior reservations.

I had a matcha latte but it didn't suit my palate. I'm not sure if I'm just being difficult or used to sweeter, richer matcha tastes.

Then we headed over to Chunyo Department Store (中友百貨公司) for 3 blocks of window shopping!

And we visited the amazing Eslite Bookstore. Wow.

The special part of the store is actually the restrroms with different styles on each floor. This is great news for selfie-taking lovers. You can collect all of them and make people guess where you are. The Eslite Bookstore on 10th floor used to be the biggest bookstore in Taiwan. You can definitely see the walls of books like the ones you see in movies or libraries. The 8-meter tall ceiling truly depicts the idea of ‘bookstore is where you can travel through time and space’. It opens 24 hours for some time. Chungyo Department Store will surely keep on standing tall to all the newbie department stores for quite some time. source

Yes, we took selfies in the toilet.
