I came to Alishan for the train ride and to see if the girls of Alishan are indeed as beautiful as water, but the town's pretty nice to roam around too. There can only be one "highest post office" in Taiwan and it's right here at Alishan! It did take us some time to realise that the "temple" was really what we were looking for. Here's a list of things to do around town, because everyone loves lists, am I right?
1. Catch the animals wandering around town
2. Take photographs of the touristy sights and signs
A sign telling you not to bring fire up the mountain so the old sacred trees will remain.
3. Spot the small details around the town
4. Visit the highest post office in Taiwan, which doesn't look like a post office at first sight. Buy some postcards and mail them home to yourself, or friends and family. P.S. I received my postcard but my pal didn't.
P.S. I think you drop in the red mailbox on the left for "Airmail".
Our set of commemorative postcards
5. Hunt down these unique wooden postcards
6. Yumcha! Indulge in some tea. Alishan mountain tea, perhaps?
And snacks
7. Have dinner by the roadside. Food's pretty expensive!
8. Check out the convenience stores for bloated snacks and grab some breakfast for the sunrise.
9. Catch some sleep before the sunrise. I got itchy so I asked the owner for some mosquito coil, well the joke's on me. Apparently Alishan is too cold for mozzies!
One of Alishan's famed attractions - the sunrise - next.
